35 global faith institutions announce divestment and call for no new fossil fuels

Today, in a direct challenge to the fossil fuel industry’s dangerous expansion plans and increasingly empty rhetoric on climate, 35 faith institutions from seven countries – including five Church of England dioceses, two Catholic dioceses in the UK and a Church of England cathedral – announced their divestment from fossil fuel companies. In total, 19 of the 35 institutions joining the announcement are from the UK.

Diocese of Truro divests from fossil fuel companies

The Diocese of Truro has announced that it has fully divested from fossil fuel investments. Having committed to becoming net zero by 2030, the diocese announced that it no longer invests in funds that include fossil fuel extraction.

Global coalition of faith institutions divest ahead of G7 and COP26

Today, 36 faith institutions from 11 countries announce their divestment from fossil fuels. It comes from institutions in Brazil, Argentina, India, the Philippines, Uganda, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, the UK and the United States. The leadership of these faith organisations highlights the urgent need to divest from fossil fuels and invest in clean alternatives in response to the growing climate crisis.
