Greenbelt 2017: When Donald met Leo

Operation Noah had a joint stall with Green Christian at this year’s Greenbelt Festival, which took place over the August bank holiday weekend.

The theme of Greenbelt 2017 was The Common Good, with a range of excellent speakers including Kim Leadbeater (sister of the late Jo Cox MP), Baroness Warsi, Natalie Bennett, John Bell, Katherine Welby-Roberts and Jack Monroe.

During the weekend, several hundred festival goers signed Operation Noah’s Bright Now petition calling on the Church of England to divest from fossil fuels and invest in clean alternatives. Among the signatories was Natalie Bennett, former leader of the Green Party.

There was also considerable interest in Operation Noah’s Divest your church resource, explaining how local churches can divest from fossil fuels and invest for a brighter future.

Green Christian focused especially on lifestyle actions that individuals can take both on climate change and other environmental issues.

During the Season of Creation (Creation Time), which takes place over the coming weeks, there are plans for a global divestment announcement on 4 October 2017. Local churches and religious communities are invited to make a divestment commitment and join the divestment announcement – please contact James Buchanan if you are interested in finding out more by emailing james.buchanan@operationnoah.org

Finally, a ‘chance encounter’ took place last weekend between the world’s leading environmentalist and the world’s most powerful individual. You can see what happened below…
